Character Makes a Gentleman or Does it???

Once a foreigner asked Swami Vivekananda," Can't you wear proper clothes to be a gentle man? " Swami Vivekananda Replied," In your culture TAILOR makes gentlemen, But in our culture CHARACTER make gentlemen "

My Best Experiment Gone Horribly Wrong...

“By now you might have guessed that I am a scientist. Yes I started this age-long experiment with simple and small parts, learning from failures, improving to develop the best result. For once I thought I succeeded in obtaining the same and suddenly it seems all is wrong, horribly wrong.

The Melodious Snorts...

Few days ago I was on my way to Chennai by train. It was during night and more or less everyone was sleeping barring a few including me (during night I hardly get any sleep while I am traveling). There was something that was drawing my attention. The snorts!!! You might not be surprised because this is one hell of a disturbing element, but this time I felt it in a different way.

Dukh to Apna Saathi Hai...

Just now I listened to the song “Raahi manwa dukh ki chinta kyun satati hai, dukh to apna saathi hai...” from an old movie named “Dosti”. Just pondering how true it can be and how much we cannot understand this.

Being Human...

These days there is a lot of craze of Salmaan Khan promoted “Being Human” Tees. You can see it everywhere, youngsters, kids, middle aged, all seem to be “touched” by the idea of being human. Or is it??

Times Change... So Do We...Is It Good or Bad???

Few days ago one of my friends mother took her last breath. We were close friends. We had a group in our college. I came to know that very day. I called her up, talked to her for hardly a minute. I didn't know what to say. It was a shocking news for all of us. I was sad for some time after that call. Then I left my room and went for a walk. After returning, I was back to my studies. I was not at all disturbed at that time. I was not like this. When I went to bed it suddenly crossed my mind that have I become so insensitive? Or don't I have even little time for my poor friend? I don't know. May be it is just the growing professionalism that I have always hated. Is it good, or bad? I can't understand so I am asking you.

Please guide me...

Money, Money, Money...

Remember I told you about a boy which I overheard while traveling in Metro??? As I said, there was more to his talk than what I discussed before. Here is the part that I want to discuss today.

Options We Have and Choices We Make...

Few years ago, I was having a discussion with a friend of mine regarding “God's will” and its influence in our life. One thing that he said impressed me a lot and has forced me to think and rethink ever since. He said, “God doesn't govern our fate or destiny, it's us. He simply gives us options, we make the choices. These choices lead to some more options and more choices and finally we get what we call the destiny.” As the title goes, life is indeed full of choices. It's course is set by the options we have and the coices we make.

“I wanted to be...” a story of dying dreams...

Yesterday, while traveling in Delhi Metro, I overheard a boy talking on phone. He was, I guess, some 24-25 years of age. He was dressed well, decent and sober. But there was something that was bothering him. I don't know what, but I could sense it from his appearance and talks that he was tensed, even on the auspicious occasion of Durga Puja. A part of it, that I actually want to discuss today, was as follows... (most of the conversation was in Hindi, I am translating that in English for the sake of my readers)

I am All Smiles...

“I am all smiles...”, this was the status of a friend of mine on a social networking site a few days ago. Several comments, as usual. But what I want to know is upto what extent? Every body has one or the other problem every day, some big ones, some small ones, so why this overstatement? Another very common misnomer is “I am fine, thank you”. Whenever you ask any person, how he/she is, almost unanimously you get the above statement in reply.

Social Networking or Friendship???

We are living in a cyber age. It all started with basic networking, sharing information, e-mail, chats and now social networking sites. Social networking sites have given us a convenient medium to search our 'old' friends, 'manage' friends, 'share' things etc. etc. etc. Everything is pretty fine but think...has it changed meaning of 'friendship'??

Against All Odds...

In my last post I promised you a story of a boy who went against his so called fate. Here we go...

Luck, Fate, Destiny...

'Luck', 'fate', 'destiny'... these are three common words which we use in everyday life. Although they have a similar meaning, they are not exactly the same. 'Luck' stands for 'the chance happening of fortunate or adverse events'; 'fate' is the 'force behind such chances' and 'destiny' stands for 'a predetermined course of events considered as something beyond human power or control'.

The Superior Species...

While studying evolution we see how the species originated and evolved into advanced life forms from crude ones. Charles Darwin's “Survival of the Fittest” and “Natural Selection” theories give enough evidences that Homo sapiens (or simply humans i.e. us) are the most superior forms of life (well, at least we think so). But here I am not talking about such evolutionary phenomenon.

Injustice with Research Fellow & M.Tech Students- Artilce by Anand Pal

The following article is by Anand Pal, a Resarch Scholar regarding discrimination between students.

It is high time now when India needs to be tagged as a "Developed nation" rather than a "Developing nation". When we all focus to produce more Ph.Ds and attract more young brains in Science and Academics we are hard hit by the social and financial status of research students. Most of us lack assurances for jobs and settlements. We have to cross the hurdles of Ph.D and Post Doc (While most of us losing hope and giving up for better other options).

The 'Value' and The 'Price' of Money...

I belong to a well to do middle class family. For me spending Rs.100 on some junk food is no big deal. Although I am not a spendthrift, but I have seldom realized the actual value of money until a few weeks back. It was when I met an old friend of mine after long years of separation (we were in contact online though). He was going through some family crisis. Economically we belong to more or less the same class, but now it seemed that he was in deep trouble.

A Nation's Progress... a Displeasing Perspective...

How do you define progress? It means improvement, moving ahead, a gradual betterment. Now, what does this very word stands for when we consider a Nation?? For many, it is regarding socio-economic status, education, industry etc. Now, let me consider my own Nation, perhaps the most beautiful on earth...

The Obvious Chaos...

Egypt, Syria, Libiya, Yemen, Bahrain, London and now Bharat (or you may call India). There are revolts, uprisings for some common cause, may be justifiable (as in most cases) or unjustifiable.

You Didn't See Me...

Hi all... Read this somewhere on web... Liked it so sharing...

I saw you hug your purse closer to you in the grocery store line.
But, you didn't see me put an extra $10.00 in the collection plate last Sunday.

A Half-Hearted Win...

These days my Mother Nation is celebrating the success of her children. The great people of this great country are full of energy, an energy which had remained dormant inside them for long time, an energy which was unleashed on a call from a 74 year old Gandhian. People are celebrating the broken egoes of “the chosen ones”. They are celebrating the win of “the forgotten ones”.

“Patna chalo...” (To Patna...)

My neighbor Sharmaji said, “Yaar, Yamlok kyun nahi chalo?? (Boy,Why not go to hell??)”.

'Anna ki Aandhi' : A Wind of Change...

Lemme tell you a story... A story about a 'common' man. He is 'common' because he represents the majority of Indian Population regardless of cast, creed, or any other thing of that sort.

Main Stream Science... Are we there yet???

Yes... My question to you... Are we there yet??? There, at the intellectual zenith... There, where we hold the Holy Grail of knowledge. The plain and simple answer is NO. But the question is not limited to what I asked before. The most important question lies, 'If not, then why???'

Symbolism: Power and Influence...

Remember 'Da Vinci Code'??? In that novel, the character 'Robert Langdon' chases signs and symbols in search of 'The Holy Grail'. What do you think The Holy Grail is??? A real chalice??? Lord Jesus's Bloodline??? Or something else??? If you ask my opinion on that, I would say, ''I don't know''. For me it is just a symbol and a rather strong one. So strong that many historians and treasure hunters still try to find it.

The Almighty God...

Previously I have discussed about science and religion. In this post, I will try to focus on who or what God actually is...

Science and Religion...

In my previous post I discussed about my thoughts regarding 'search' and 'research'. I will now continue the discussion with a new taste...

Search vs Research...

I have been in the field of science for some time now. Everywhere I see or hear is the term 'research'...''in his/her research...'',''in my research...'',''in this research...'',''in that research...'',etc. etc. etc. So what the hell is this research???
