Options We Have and Choices We Make...

Few years ago, I was having a discussion with a friend of mine regarding “God's will” and its influence in our life. One thing that he said impressed me a lot and has forced me to think and rethink ever since. He said, “God doesn't govern our fate or destiny, it's us. He simply gives us options, we make the choices. These choices lead to some more options and more choices and finally we get what we call the destiny.” As the title goes, life is indeed full of choices. It's course is set by the options we have and the coices we make.
Those of you who have read my previous posts might think that this post is sort of contradictory to some of my previous posts. Well, may be it is, may be it isn't. What I am trying to do is to explore the possibilities. So, is it (the choices) really the main governing factor of our destiny? Let's see...

Right from our childhood, we are choosing between things. You might remember a very common question, “Son/Daughter, whom do you love the most, mummy or daddy?”. “Come on we are kids for God's sake, don't push us into such choices”. Then someday you go to a toy shop and you like a toy gun and a doctors' set. Papa says, “select one, we can buy the other some time later”. Then time goes on, we select our stream for study at inter (or 10+2) level, the 1st deciding factor in my opinion. Then to college (again which one?). Then girlfriend(s)/boyfriend(s), there again choices. Then career, bride/groom, home, car, and the list goes on....

Then one day you realize that you probably made a wrong selection at some point of time in past and which you feel affecting your present and in your opinion, might bring serious consequences. What will you do? We can't turn the wheel of time backwards (nor do we have a time machine till now). Will you regret or move on? I'll leave this as an open question to you but would like to add that most of us do regret (although most of them move on too). I have never seen a person who doesn't think that she/he has made any mistake in her/his choices and rarely those who do not regret. If you consider yourselves in any of the above two categories, please do let me know. I think I could learn a lot from you.
